Forbes has unveiled it's annual ranking of top sports brands, and Nike sits atop the throne for the third straight year. According to Forbes Magazine, The Swoosh is worth about $19 billion right now, a $2 billion increase from 2013, and $2.5 billion more than #2, ESPN. Adidas rounded out the top three.
Who's responsible for keeping Nike at the top of the totem pole? LeBron James. For the first time since 2007, a guy not named Tiger Woods ranks as the top athlete brand, and LeBron's brand worth of about $37 million has him sitting at #1. LBJ raked in $53 million off the court last year alone from endorsers like McDonalds, Coca-Cola, Upper Deck, and of course, Nike.
The Swoosh has delayed the release of the highly anticipated Nike LeBron 12, which was slated to drop in October, due to 'cosmetic issues' but they should be releasing sooner than later. Either way, LeBron won't be feeling light in his wallet
